Songwriting #3: Instrumentals or Songs with Lyrics?

Well, unfortunately these days, the audience for instrumental music is shrinking fast. It

does still serve a purpose in our culture though; mostly to get covered up while

accompanying other media. Therefore, it really comes down to what your aim is.

If you’re a “composer”, you’ll probably be working less with lyrics, if you’re a “songwriter”,

you’ll rarely write something without them. If you’re trying to maximize the amount of ears on your shit: lyric based compositions every time. If you’re trying to score for film: work those atmospheres, melodies and variations. Save the crooning for the shower.
